At forty, Hilario is a writer whose ambitions have slowly given way to frustration. His novel goes nowhere, publishers remain uninterested, and his days are split between working at a small bookshop and teaching an online writing workshop. A spontaneous night out leads to him meeting a young woman who sparks something he thought he had lost. But it’s not love. It’s inspiration. And Hilario is selfish enough to use that spark as material rather than connection.
COOL BOOKS looks like a romantic comedy, but it intentionally allows the romance to fail. Helmed by Argentinean directing duo Andrés Salmoyraghi and Rafael López Saubidet, COOL BOOKS features cinematography by Christos Voudouris (Yorgos Lanthimos, Richard Linklater), bringing an exceptional contemporary look.
